Britney- I was born in Chunan and am 16 years old. I have one brother, mom and dad. I am attending the Ewha Girl's School in Seoul. I am a very religious person who has faith in God and because of it I have courage to join the Peace Demonstration on March 1st, 1919 for Korea's independence movement. I know the Koreans including me suffer greatly under Japanese rule. Declaration of Independence was signed by 33 nationalists who deeply desired to be free from Japanese harsh rule. The determination to be independent from Japan has been increasing and Korean cannot hold back their anger when the king Gojong dies in 1919. There is a rumor that he has been poisoned by the Japanese. The idealism of Woodraw Wilson and his fourteen points raise our hopes at the end of WW1. My hopes are very high since I belive that Wilson's proclamation of self- determination for subjugated people will lead to Korea's independece. When I cam back to my village after the school closed, I tried to organize a demonstration with the help of local church members. The day of the demonstration a crowd assembled with the Korea's national flag. Japanese police are frantic and shoot down many people including my parents. I am arrested and tourtured for many days until I died. I am a witness who terribly experienced the war, political division, and foreign control in Korea in 20th century.
